*Warning – contains spoilers*
Like every book, it needs a main character – the focal point of the entire story.
Before I changed the name of my story, Neenah Fynn was originally called The Guardians. The last minute name change came from the realization that the title The Guardians wasn’t exactly original. There were so many stories with a title very similar, if not exact.
I didn’t like that.
Now, who is Neenah Fynn?
Neenah Fynn is the daughter of the original queen Vera Aurora Monroe and the polish prince Ethan Mason Fynn. For those that do not know, the two met and fell in love during their time at Endeavour Academy. Their relationship together was forbidden, since he was in line for a his own throne, so Vera married Sterling and the two took to the throne.
Because of this, Ethan rebelled and left the throne to begin training as a Sentinel. His excellent marks and skills then placed him in the top spot beside Queen Vera, as her Guardian.
Shortly after his placement, an affair took place, and thus Neenah was born.
The announcement of the Queen’s pregnancy awakened rebels who’s main cause was to bring down the monarchy, due to their old fashioned beliefs that faeries and humans mustn’t mix.
After a failed attack on the castle, it was decided that in order to protect Neenah and the future of the world they needed to make her disappear.
Her true identity is kept secret, even from her, and so Neenah Fynn is just a girl who’s mother died and was raised by her father.
When I began writing the first book, it was to help kill time while my husband was deployed. I had the hardest trouble coming up with a name. Nothing seemed to fit. I’m pretty sure there was another name before Neenah-though I can’t remember it anymore- but it just didn’t feel right.
A few months into deployment, I started a job at the movie theater in town, to get me out of the house. That is where I met the assistant manager, Neenah.
She will probably laugh when she reads this, but I always thought she looked like a faerie in a way – she was so pretty. She still is and has that mommy glow to her from her little girl they are expecting within the next month.
She also was the inspiration for the look of the Gaea bloodline – though the blond shade is actually platinum blond – I had originally planned for the Gaea bloodline to have black hair.
The next time I worked on my novel the originally planned black hair, gray/blue eyes, changed to blond hair and the name officially became Neenah.
I remember her laughing, the day I told her I was going to steal her first name for the main character in my faerie novel I was writing.
She didn’t think I was being serious until she saw me working on it during my downtime at work.
As for the Queen Vera, her name came from my lovely polish friend Vera Maksymiuk. We met back in my late teen years and have been friends since then. Her face was the first thing I thought of names for the faerie queen.
Funny enough, she even collects crowns! I plan on getting her one befitting for a faerie queen for the holidays!
The idea behind writing the novel Neenah Fynn stemmed from my love for faeries and my curiosity towards mythology.
I easily imagined that this planet was created and nurtured by Gaea and Poseidon. Only things got complicated upon the creation of humans, thus the two gods came to earth to intervene.
The royal bloodline of Neenah and Silas are direct descendants of Poseidon and Gaea. Their jobs are to oversee the care of the earth and its waters, and the life that inhabit them.
Think Tinkerbell, where faeries are involved, with a dash of Harry Potter – where they must go to school to learn how to properly use their powers before they can become fully functioning members of their society.
A world where natural disasters -tornadoes, forest fires, hurricanes- are the fault of dark faeries who believe humans are nothing more than a parasite of the earth and want to eradicate them.
Neenah Fynn is my part in giving magic and new wonder to the world we currently live in.
